Introductions / Deck Apes
Last post by Peter R Batt - January 10, 2012, 09:18:31 AM
I came aboard in Bahrain during Iranian hostage crisis and left in yards at Portsmith. What a great time in between. Was part of ships self defense force, great chance to go out and play army man. Had terrorist drill in Chatham England. Shoot first ask questions later. Survival camp out in Tromsoe Norway. Small arms training with real ammo in a volcano in Italy. Marched in 4th of July parade in NYC, band in front of us and one behind us, couldn't here a thing.
2 Stanavforlant cruises back to back. Visited every brewery and winery we stopped at. Great parties on the German and Canadien ships.
Spent my 21st birthday in the brig in Scotland. Some thing about a fight at a bar. 1st Div. was good at underway ops but was way better at tearing up a bar.

Permission granted Midrats and welcome aboard.  I noticed you have posted lots of pictures and welcome them.  The more the merrier.  I continue to work on the site and welcome any contributions.
Pictures? Can't find them. Love to see them.

Crew Events / 2012 DDG-5 Crew Reunion
Last post by CaptainKirk - December 31, 2011, 09:30:17 AM
Just a reminder that the 2012 DDG-5 Crew Reunion, to be held in Jacksonville, Florida is just a few months away.  The registration form, reunion schedule and tour information is now available on the 2012 Reunion page.  Remember to call the Crowne Plaza Jacksonville directly (1-904-398-8800) for your reservations if you are planning on staying there.  Also remember to tell them you are with the DDG-5 Crew Members Association to get the reunion discount.

Just a note that the on-line reservation form is in PDF format.  It's been setup so that you may fill it out on-line and it's nice enough to total up your costs for you  :).  However, for some reason the form takes a bit of time to come up so be patient.

Hope to see you at the reunion.

The Forums / Language additions to Forum
Last post by CaptainKirk - August 07, 2011, 10:56:35 AM
For the convenience of my non-US friends from our MMD days,  I've added the following languages to the Forum:

  • Dutch
  • German
  • German (informal)
  • Greek
  • Italian
  • Turkish

For those of you who were non-US shipmates during the MMD and if English isn't your 1st language, let me know if this works.  You can select your language by going to Profile and then select Account Settings.

Thanks,

The Site / Site update status
Last post by CaptainKirk - August 06, 2011, 09:33:01 AM
If you're reading this, then you are somewhat aware of the changes I've implemented on the site.  You can now login using your Forum username/password and update/modify your site registration data as well as contacting other shipmates directly without having to go through me.  At least you can contact other shipmates as long as they have an active, live email address, which some shipmates either haven't registered or have changed since they registered.

What I would like is for everyone to actually log in and go to their profile and update it as necessary.  I would like you do this for several reasons, not the least of which I need to know if you have any problems or if you see anything that isn't right.  Since I'm the "creator" of stuff, I'm usually way too close to the trees to see the forest and things sometimes get by me.

Other site changes/updates are coming as I can get to them.  I hope to have the crew locator updated so that you can email shipmates directly from the search results sometime in the next month or so.

As always, let me know if you find problems or would like to see something that isn't here.

The Forums / Note the "Home Port" in the up...
Last post by CaptainKirk - March 03, 2011, 12:09:52 PM
I've put in a link to the main page of the web site so you don't have to use the back button on your browser to get there.  It's in the upper right hand corner of the forum page(s) labeled Home Port.  The Forum will no longer open in a new window/tab and you won't see the navigation menus like you have in the past.  Let me know if you want links to other pages/places.
